Day in Nanjing

We finally made it to Nanjing. We had to leave the hotel at 5 am this morning to make it to the airport on time. As it turns out, our plane was delayed about 45 min. Go figure! Oh well, we were all so happy to be going that it wasn't much of a setback. The plane was fabulous and they served us breakfast with our choice of Western style (eggs & sausage) or Chinese (congee). Our guide, Grace, met us at the airport full of smiles and energy. She and Sydney are out right now shopping for a suitable adapter for the laptop. After getting settled in at our hotel, she took us to a local grocery for some needed items (water, etc.). The picture of Grace and Sydney is in the store. A clerk in the store who spoke very good English was asking a lot of questions about us. I visited with her for a good little while. When I told her Kevin was a farmer she said, "Oh, he's a peasant." Hmm. We also stopped on the street to purchase some tomatoes from a local vendor. The little boy you see just behind Hayden in the picture was really interested in Hayden but just a little bashful! His dad said it would be okay if Hayden gave him a piece of candy and that seemed to warm him up a little. :) I took a couple of pictures of the traffic and as you can see the cars, bicycles, and pedestrians all mix it up quite a bit. Nanjing is not nearly as crazy as the traffic in Beijing, but keep in mind the population is about half. Tomorrow is Gotcha Day! We are leaving the hotel at 9:30am. Yippee! Please continue your prayers for her and all the transitions she will be making.
